8 Ways to Make your Health and Fitness Journey Easier!
Do you sometimes feel like you’re in a rut with your health and fitness and you can’t seem to move forward? We all do from time to time, even the most fit or athletic looking people.
I understand that being fit and healthy is important to you, so you feel amazing and like you can conquer the world and also so you look good! Over the years I’ve experimented with a plethora of different approaches. Here are the key areas that I believe will lead to success in your health and fitness journey. Some of them may surprise you!
Consistency
Become consistent with one habit at a time and the results will come. It will have a multiplying effect and before you know it you will be well on your way to achieving your body goals. In the past I’ve told myself I’ll get up an hour and a half earlier than I normally do, inevitably I’d do it for a day and the next days I’d hit snooze and get up later than I ordinarily would have. Smaller, more achievable goals (such as getting up 15 minutes earlier) applied consistently, will move you forward a lot quicker than trying to make a bigger change and not doing it consistently!
Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People
Surround yourself with like-minded people so you have other people to talk to who understand, who will keep you accountable and celebrate your wins with you. This will enable you to keep going when the going gets tough.
Have an Open Mind
Be open to new ideas and different ways of doing things. Just because something worked for your friend or colleague or even yourself in the past, it doesn’t mean it will work for you now. It really is trial and error to ascertain what works for your body at any given time. The beauty of this is that you will learn to listen to your body and know what it needs.
Listen to your Body
As per my last point, learn to listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs. Are you pushing it too hard, exercising too much? Would it be more beneficial to rest rather than getting up early to do a workout? Do you feel bloated? Take notice of the foods you have just eaten. Are you exhausted because you’re burning the candle at both ends? When you learn to listen to your body, you’ll not only have more energy, but you’ll be able to prevent yourself from crashing and burning! It WILL help you achieve your goals more than you think ?
Banish Negative Self-Talk
Don’t beat yourself up over things that you have or haven’t done. Negative self-talk is often more detrimental than whatever it is that you ate or from not exercising for a day or two or even a week. Your mind will play games on you, it’s your job to learn to recognize this and set it straight. It’s an ongoing process, it won’t happen overnight but it will get easier with time. Remind yourself and be grateful for the positive choices you’ve made and remember that one bad day won’t set you back as much as you think if at all! This will have a much bigger impact on your results than you think!
Be Prepared
Always have pre-made meals in the freezer, leftovers, salads and boiled eggs in the fridge, fresh veggies and either fresh or frozen protein on hand so you can quickly whip up a nutritious meal. Being prepared with yummy and nutritious meals will make your life so much easier and you will achieve your goals a lot quicker as a result.
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
With all the selfies being posted on facebook and instagram it’s easy to get caught up with comparisonitis! Stop Right Now! It will only drag you down. Focus on being better than you were yesterday, last week or last month. Focus on the progress you’ve made. Are you lifting heavier weights? Can you run further and / or faster? Are you making healthier food choices? It’s not about being better than someone else; it’s about being better than you were yesterday!
Focus on the Journey, Not the Destination!
It really is a journey and it’s vital that you enjoy yourself too! Don’t eat foods that you hate just because you think they’re good for you, find some exercises that you love and are fun; there are so many options out there now. If you hate exercising in the morning, then exercise at another time during the day or in the evening. Stop doing things you don’t enjoy just because you think it’ll get you where you want to be, enjoying the journey is far more important. You’ll also find that you achieve your goals without even realising it because it’s no longer a struggle!
Want to get out of that rut, feel amazing in your own skin and like you can conquer the world?
